Lawn Aeration

Aeration is the naturally occurring process of air exchange between the soil and its surrounding atmosphere. Our aeration service removes small plugs of dirt so that water and roots travel deeper into the soil. This service reduces soil compaction, which is very prevalent in the North Texas area. This service should be performed at least once a year as a preventative treatment, usually in the fall. When it comes to premium lawn care, Dallas TX residents rely on Daugherty’s Lawn Service!

Why is lawn aeration necessary?

In most home lawns, the natural soil has been seriously disturbed by the building process. Fertile topsoil may have been removed or buried during excavation of the basement or footings, leaving subsoil that is more compact, higher in clay content and less desirable for healthy lawn growth. These lawns need aeration to improve the depth and extent of turf grass rooting and to improve fertilizer and water use. For the best lawn care in Dallas, call Daugherty’s Lawn Service!

When should lawns be aerated?

Both spring and fall are ideal times to aerate cool season turf grass such as Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass. In most cases, spring aeration is performed between March and May, depending on the locations, turf grass species and intensity of use. Fall aeration is performed in the late summer and early fall, usually between August and November. Aeration before or at the time of late season fertilization enhances root growth responses and improves spring green-up and growth. When it comes to superior lawn care, Dallas TX residents rely on Daugherty’s Lawn Service for all their lawn care needs!

Dallas Lawn Care
What can you expect from lawn aeration?

Immediately after aeration, your lawn will be dotted with small plugs pulled from the soil. Within a week or two, these small plugs of thatch and soil break apart and disappear into the lawn. About 7 to 10 days after aeration, the tiny holes will be filled with white, actively growing roots. These roots are a sign that the turf grass is responding to additional oxygen, moisture and nutrients in the soil from the aeration process. Don’t expect miracles from a single aeration, particularly on lawns growing on extremely poor soils. Most lawns benefit from annual aeration. Lawns that receive this care will be healthier, more vigorous, easier to maintain and have fewer pest problems than lawns that are neglected and don’t receive quality Dallas lawn care.

Grub Control

Grubs are an annual problem that is treated during the early summer months as part of our basic lawn care in Dallas. Grubs will feed on your lawn’s roots during the dormancy season and you won’t notice the damage until spring; by then it’s too late. This control treatment can significantly reduce the chance of grub damage to your lawn. Grub damage is by far the most common type of damage sustained by turf grass.
